Cleveland Shocks: Browns Unload Another Former First-Rounder

Evidently you can not trade enough first-round draft picks in one day.

The Cleveland Browns followed their trade of quarterback <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2010/03/14/Brady-quinn-traded-to-denver/">Brady Quinn to Denver with an even more surprising deal -- Cleveland traded linebacker Kamerion Wimbley to the <a href="http://www.nflshops.co.uk/jerseys-uk/oakland-Raiders/">Oakland Raiders for a draft choice believed to be a third-round selection.

Quinn's departure was expected once Jake Delhomme agreed to join the Browns. But Wimbley was a solid player who played well for the Browns in 2009, when he had a career-high 69 tackles and 6 1/2 sacks.

Mission accomplished.

According to multiple reports, Tomlinson agreed Sunday to a two-year deal with the Jets. Financial details were not immediately available.

Tomlinson met with the Jets on Friday, about 24 hours after Minnesota gave him its best recruiting pitch. <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/minnesota-Vikings">Vikings coach Brad Childress even said that he hoped Tomlinson would be "1a" at the RB position alongside Adrian Peterson.

Lions Acquire Shaun Hill From Niners

Filed under: <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/category/san-francisco-49ers/" rel="tag">49ers, <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/category/Detroit-lions/" rel="tag">Lions

Shaun HillWhen San Francisco <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2010/03/07/49ers-qb-david-carr-agree-on-two-year-contract/">reached out and nabbed quarterback David Carr off the free-agent market last week, it essentially spelled the end of Shaun Hill's time with the 49ers.

And now the official end of Hill's San Fran days appear to be upon us. According to Matt Maiocco of the Press Democrat, the Niners <a href="http://blog.pressdemocrat.com/49ers/2010/03/hill-dealt-to-lions-for-7th-round-pick-next-year.html">have traded Hill to Detroit for a 2011 seventh-round draft choice.

The Niners no doubt had hopes of a higher return for Hill, who started 14 games over the past two seasons, but instead settled for just unloading him.

Browns Sign Jake Delhomme

The <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/cleveland-Browns">Cleveland Browns signed free-agent quarterback Jake Delhomme on Saturday, giving off the strongest signals yet that new front office boss Mike Holmgren does not believe in <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/Brady-quinn/8276">Brady Quinn as the team's franchise quarterback.

Delhomme, who had a disastrous 2009 season with the <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/carolina-Panthers">Carolina Panthers, agreed to a two-year deal with Cleveland. He was also being pursued by the <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/new-orleans-Saints">New Orleans Saints, but in New Orleans he has no chance of starting as long as Drew Brees is healthy. In Cleveland, he has a real chance of being the starter when the 2010 regular season begins.

Redskins Add RB Larry Johnson

Filed under: <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/category/washington-Redskins/" rel="tag">Redskins,

Larry JohnsonHoping to upgrade a rushing attack that averaged just 94.4 yards per game in 2009, sixth-worst in the NFL, the <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/washington-Redskins">Redskins reached a deal with free-agent running back Larry Johnson Friday.

ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported that the Redskins and Johnson had agreed to a three-year deal. According to NFL.com's Jason La Canfora, Johnson will earn a maximum of $12 million over the life of the contract.

The controversial Johnson, who was released by the Chiefs midway through last season, finished the year in Cincinnati. Combined between the two stops, the 30-year-old RB rushed for 581 yards.

Over his seven-year career, Johnson has accumulated 6,219 yards rushing and another 1,373 yards receiving. His best years came back-to-back in 2005 and '06 in Kansas City -- he topped 1,700 yards rushing in both those seasons with 40 combined touchdowns.

Is LaDainian Tomlinson Washed Up?

<img hspace="4" border="1" align="right" vspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nfl.fanhouse.com/media/2010/03/ladainian-Tomlinson-finished.jpg" alt="LaDainian Tomlinson" />For an aging running back, <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/players/ladainian-Tomlinson/5452">LaDainian Tomlinson is very popular.

He's already been told by the <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/minnesota-Vikings">Vikings that he'd be running back 1A to Adrian Peterson's No. 1. The <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/new-york-Jets">Jets are also making their pitch for how he could fit in and are willing to give him as much money as they would have paid Thomas Jones.

Both the Vikings and Jets see Tomlinson as one of the great all-time backs -- a tailback with the ability to break a big run and serve as a useful third down back who can catch the ball out of the backfield. But are they ignoring some pretty strong signs that Tomlinson's days as even an average NFL back are behind him?

Delhomme joins Browns

Former Carolina Panthers starting quarterback Jake Delhomme has become the second passer in a week to sign with the Cleveland Browns. Delhomme joins Seneca Wallace as the Browns' new quarterback signings - putting Brady Quinn's future in Cleveland in jeopardy.

Redskins sign Johnson

The Washington Redskins have signed troubled Pro Bowl running back Larry Johnson to deepen a backfield that already contains Clinton Portis. Johnson agreed to a deal with a base value of $3.5 million, but he could make as much as $12 million if he meets certain incentives.

Justice Comes for Darrent Williams

Darrent WilliamsHopefully, peace comes now to the family and friends of Darrent Williams. His killer, Willie D. Clark, is no longer alleged, but guilty.

Can we now ask all professional athletes to pause and learn from this? To avoid putting yourselves and your money, status, talent and misguided machismo in these can't-win scenarios? You may think you've earned your way into bottle service in the VIP room at the club, behind the velvet rope or inside the darkened hallway, where your young, entitled nights can be enjoyed freely and recklessly.

You are targets. You are not invincible. You may cause trouble or invite it, simply because of who you are, who you are with or what you think you may be.

Please. Stop and think. Look at what can happen.

Jags Owner: Team Won’t ‘Force a Pick’ to Land Tebow

Filed under: <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/category/jacksonville-Jaguars/" rel="tag">Jaguars,

Tim TebowThe <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/jacksonville-Jaguars">Jacksonville Jaguars had seven of eight home games blacked out last season.

Fewer than 50,000 went to each of their first six home dates, and it wasn't until the Jags rolled to a 7-5 record -- and wedged themselves into the playoff hunt -- that the locals got interested enough to send 60,000 to the season's final two games at Jacksonville Memorial Stadium. The opponents were the in-state rival <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/miami-Dolphins">Miami Dolphins and then-undefeated <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/indianapolis-Colts">Indianapolis Colts. The Jags lost both, along with their final two road games, to finish 7-9.

So what is there to get the North Florida masses excited about with the 2010 Jags?

How 'bout bringing in the guy who played the last four years about 90 minutes away and fared fairly well for the state's flagship university?

Yeah, that guy.
