And they don't always have a great relationship with their starting quarterbacks.
Take, for example, the time they made former No. 1 overall pick Tim Couch cry, or when they cheered Derek Anderson after he suffered a season-ending knee injury.
On Tuesday, Anderson was released by the Browns, ending a four-year run with the team that included a trip to the Pro Bowl in 2007 and a steady decline over the following two years.
Still stinging from hearing fans cheer his injury, the 26-year-old quarterback sounded off about the orange-and-brown faithful.

Antwaan Randle El didn't get a chance to watch many <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/Pittsburgh-<a href="http://www.nflshops.co.uk/jerseys-uk/Pittsburgh-steelers/">Steelers"><a href="http://www.nflshops.co.uk/jerseys-uk/Pittsburgh-steelers/">Steelers games last year. It's understandable -- he was busy playing for the <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/washington-Redskins">Redskins. But because he didn't get to see the <a href="http://www.nflshops.co.uk/jerseys-uk/Pittsburgh-steelers/">Steelers, he appears to be under the mistaken assumption that he will be the <a href="http://www.nflshops.co.uk/jerseys-uk/Pittsburgh-steelers/">Steelers' No. 3 receiver in 2010.
I say mistaken because even when he was in his prime, Randle El was not as good a receiver as Mike Wallace was as a rookie. At this point in his career only an injury to Wallace would explain why Randle El would play ahead of him. If the <a href="http://www.nflshops.co.uk/jerseys-uk/Pittsburgh-steelers/">Steelers actually told Randle El that he would be their No. 3 receiver this year, either they were a) lying or b) crazy. There is no other logical explanation.
When Randle El talked to the Washington Post, he <a href="http://voices.washingtonpost.com/Redskinsinsider/free-agency/randle-el-rejoins-the-<a href="http://www.nflshops.co.uk/jerseys-uk/Pittsburgh-steelers/">Steelers.html" target="_blank">seemed to believe that he's returning to Pittsburgh as a key cog.

After fathering seven children by six women in five states, you'd think Antonio Cromartie would have trouble finding a new partner.
The <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/new-york-Jets">New York Jets not only have a crush on Cromartie, they'll pay to help his bygones be bygones. You don't have to be Dr. Laura to shriek the obvious question:
What are you thinking?
"We're working with Antonio to give him the best chance to be successful," <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/new-york-Jets">Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said.

The Kansas City Chiefs have bolstered their running game by signing former New York Jet Thomas Jones to a two-year deal. Jones finished the 2009 season as the NFL's third-ranked rusher, and helped his former team to the AFC Championship game.
The Cleveland Browns have cut quarterback Derek Anderson, ending a five-year stint with the team that saw him claim a starting job, win a Pro Bowl berth, and then lose his job entirely. As he exited the club, Anderson let rip on the Browns fans.
The Denver Broncos added some much needed beef to their defensive line on Tuesday, signing nose tackle Jamal Williams and defensive end Jarvis Green. Both players have previous experience of working in a 3-4 defense like the one the Broncos run.

Almost every Steeler fan is shocked today to realize that Ryan Clark is still in Pittsburgh. But with the benefit of hindsight it is clear that the <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/Pittsburgh-<a href="http://www.nflshops.co.uk/jerseys-uk/Pittsburgh-steelers/">Steelers"><a href="http://www.nflshops.co.uk/jerseys-uk/Pittsburgh-steelers/">Steelers' front office pulled off a masterful negotiating strategy.
From the start, it was quite obvious that Ryan Clark wanted to remain a Steeler. He talked to the local newspapers and went on Pittsburgh radio stations to make it clear that he wasn't asking for Troy Polamalu money -- his demands were going to be reasonable. A player who is looking for the most money he can get doesn't really worry too much about making sure his former fanbase understands his reasons for leaving. But in Clark's case, he went on a full P.R. offensive to make sure <a href="http://www.nflshops.co.uk/jerseys-uk/Pittsburgh-steelers/">Steelers' fans realized he wanted a reasonable deal in Pittsburgh.
But while Clark was proclaiming his desire to stay in Pittsburgh, the <a href="http://www.nflshops.co.uk/jerseys-uk/Pittsburgh-steelers/">Steelers stayed relatively silent. They didn't throw out a series of contract offers. Instead, they gave him one offer right before Clark became a free agent, then went silent again. Clark couldn't be sure that the <a href="http://www.nflshops.co.uk/jerseys-uk/Pittsburgh-steelers/">Steelers viewed him as a top priority or someone who they liked, but rather were quite willing to let him go elsewhere.

Julius Peppers rules.
Yes, the <a href="http://nfl.fanhouse.com/team/Chicago-<a href="http://www.nflshops.co.uk/jerseys-uk/Chicago-bears/">Bears">Chicago <a href="http://www.nflshops.co.uk/jerseys-uk/Chicago-bears/">Bears correctly spent $91.5 million with $20 million guaranteed on a dominating player who is age 30 and entering his ninth pro season.
But four other big-name unrestricted free agents who have grabbed top, guaranteed dollars with new teams fit this profile:
-- An age of 27 or 28.
-- Entering his sixth through eighth NFL season.
Teams are thinking big upswing with this kind of player.
Textured just enough. Green just enough. Seed planted by other franchises. His new club collects the bloom.
Cornerback Dunta Robinson (from Houston to Atlanta, $22.5 million guaranteed), linebacker Karlos Dansby (from Arizona to Miami, $22 million guaranteed), safety Antrel Rolle (from Arizona to the Giants, $15 million guaranteed) and receiver Nate Burleson (from Seattle to Detroit, $11 million guaranteed) fit this model. Robinson and Rolle are 27. Dansby and Burleson are 28. Rolle enters his sixth season. Robinson and Dansby enter their seventh and Burleson his eighth.
