Albert Haynesworth-Washington Redskins Drama Continues

Albert Haynesworth's dud performance in the Redskins">Redskins preseason finale may have earned him a seat on the bench in the Redskins season opener, further suggesting the Haynesworth-Redskins drama isn't done yet, according to a report from The Washington Post.

In last Thursday's preseason battle with the Cardinals">Cardinals in Arizona, Haynesworth, a former Pro Bowler, recorded four tackles. At times though he looked lost in the Redskins' new 3-4 defensive scheme, according to sources from The Post. One source described Haynesworth as "awful."

During Saturday's practice, Haynesworth was moved back to nose tackle and removed from the nickel package. The sources said that Washington coach Mike Shanahan is fed up with Haynesworth.

In the last several months, the Redskins' $100 million defensive tackle has gotten under his coaches' skin. Initially, he refused to play in the team's new 3-4 defense, but settled on a bonus back in April. Haynesworth couldn't pass a conditioning test until the 10th day of minicamp and he took off a week from camp due to rhabdomyolsis, a muscle tissue breakdown condition. Shanahan told FanHouse last month, "the days of him [Haynesworth] playing without practicing are over."

Dan Hampton Thinks Vikings Need to Hit New Orleans ‘Like Katrina’

The NFL's regular season kicks off this Thursday night in New Orleans with a rematch of last year's NFC Championship Game between the Vikings">Minnesota Vikings and the Saints">Saints. New Orleans, of course, won the title game in overtime before knocking off Indianapolis in the Super Bowl.

While previewing Thursday's matchup for Pro Football Weekly, former Chicago-Chicago-bears/">Bears">Chicago Chicago-bears/">Bears defensive lineman Dan Hampton put his foot in his mouth (actually, he kicked himself in the face) by suggesting the Vikings">Vikings need to hit New Orleans like Hurricane Katrina did in August 2005.

The exact quote: "If you watch that playoff game last year, the Vikings need to go down there and hit that town like Katrina. I think the Vikings go down there and get it done."

Pat White Among Dolphins Roster Cuts

These are always the toughest decisions a head coach has to make in the NFL, cutting down the roster to the league-mandated 53 players. For Dolphins/">Dolphins coach Tony Sparano, it involved him having to part ways two of his high draft picks from last season -- quarterback Pat White and wide receiver Patrick Turner -- and popular veteran tight end David Martin.

White was thought to be a risky pick in the second round last April because of his size (6-foot, 190 pounds) and questions about whether he could transition from a running quarterback to more of a pocket quarterback in the pros. Despite being the all-time leading rusher among quarterback in NCAA history and going 34-8 as a starter, the Alabama native struggled as a rookie last year and continued to struggle in training camp this year.

Turner was taken in the third round in 2009, ahead of current starter Brian Hartline, but was inactive for all but two games, seeing action mostly on special teams. A back injury prevented him from participating in OTAs and mini-camp but he caught up in training camp and was doing well in the preseason. Unfortunately for Turner, undrafted rookies Marlon Moore and Roberto Wallace passed him on the depth chart and found their way onto the roster.

Take that, Denny Green.

It was Green, then the Cardinals/">Arizona Cardinals coach, who on draft day in 2006 called quarterback Matt Leinart "a gift from heaven.''

Well, as of Saturday afternoon, he's a gift to anybody who wants him. Anybody besides the Cardinals, that is, with Arizona having let him go.

In getting down to the league mandate of 53 players, coach Ken Whisenhunt and his staff decided that Derek Anderson, picked up during the offseason from the Browns/">Cleveland Browns, will be the starter and Max Hall will be the backup with rookie John Skelton No. 3

Leinart will be given a chance to find a job elsewhere. It's quite a comedown for the former Heisman Trophy winner out of USC who came to the Cardinals with huge expectations and leaves with little to show for his four years in the desert.

He started for a bit, then got supplanted for two years when Kurt Warner came in and led the Cardinals to back-to-back NFC West titles. When Warner danced off the Cardinals' stage, it was supposed to be Leinart's time. It wasn't.

Reports: Patriots Release Zac Robinson, Derrick Burgess

Another quarterback from the 2010 draft class is on the street as former Oklahoma State quarterback Zac Robinson has reportedly been waived by the Patriots/">New England Patriots, Patriots-release-qb-zac-robinson-Broncos-release-jarvis-green/">according to the Boston Herald.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Robinson was taken in the seventh round and had an impressive college career for the Cowboys, throwing for 8,317 yards and 66 touchdowns, but he never could find his rhythm with the Patriots/">Patriots. His last chance to impress came Thursday night against the New England Patriots after Brady/5228">Tom Brady's backup, Brian Hoyer, struggled mightily, but Robinson apparently didn't do enough to instill confidence in Patriots coach Bill Belichick.

He still could land on the practice squad.
