NFL Notes: Seattle Weighing Brandon Marshall Conundrum

When the Broncos">Denver Broncos attached a first-round tender to Brandon Marshall (and not the more expensive first- and third-round compensation price), they basically were announcing to the rest of league, "Come and get him!"

Considering the number of Round 1 receivers that have been busts, a first-round draft choice to avoid investments (both organizational and financial) like David Terrell, Charles Rogers, Mike Williams, Reggie Williams, Michael Clayton and Troy Williamson seems beyond reasonable. Especially for a player with three straight 100-catch seasons -- which is nearly 100 more than the aforementioned dirty half-dozen, all high first-round selections, have combined for the last three years. The front offices of established teams that have a need at receiver and are picking late in the first round -- Cincinnati, Cowboys/">Dallas, Baltimore or the Jets">New York Jets, for a example -- should be having the Marshall discussion.

But they're talking about some statistics that don't appear on the back of Marshall's football card, also. Namely his track record as a malcontent has been well-documented in sports sections and highlights shows. And his track record for arrests on disorderly conduct, drunken driving and domestic violence issues (with two different women, by the way) have been well documented by the authorities.

Browns Schedule Visit With Ex-Panthers QB Jake Delhomme

The Browns">Cleveland Browns might be starting to bring more clarity to their jumbled quarterback situation.

The team has set up a visit with free agent Jake Delhomme for Thursday, FanHouse has confirmed. The scheduled visit was first reported by the Cleveland Plain Dealer, though Delhomme's agent, Rick Smith, said via e-mail he could not confirm or deny the trip.

Carolina waived Delhomme last week after he spent seven years as the Panthers">Panthers' starting QB. Delhomme took the Panthers to the Super Bowl in 2003, the NFC Championship game following the 2005 season and the playoffs in 2008.

Sorry, T.O.: Bengals Land Antonio Bryant

Last week, agent Drew Rosenhaus created a buzz when he said that the Bengals">Bengals had been Bengals-making-a-move-for-t-o/">in contact with his client, free agent WR Terrell Owens. The thought of T.O. teaming with Chad Ochocinco seemed too good (and obnoxious?) to be true.

Turns out, it was.

According to multiple reports, Cincinnati agreed with Antonio Bryant on a four-year, $28 million deal Wednesday. Bryant's impending signing leaves no room for Owens on a wide receiver depth chart that also includes Ochocinco, Andre Caldwell and recently added Matt Jones, among others.

Marlin Jackson Signs With Philadelphia

The Eagles">Eagles announced Wednesday that they have signed free agent cornerback Marlin Jackson to a two-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately available.

Jackson, 26, spent his first five NFL seasons in Indianapolis. He's currently rehabbing after surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee, an injury that caused him to miss all but four games in 2009. Jackson also missed 11 games in 2008 with a torn ACL in his right knee.

When he was healthy and playing, though, Jackson made major contributions to the Colts">Colts' secondary. As a cornerback, Jackson started all 16 games for Indianapolis during the 2007 season, recording 87 tackles and an interception. He had 82 tackles the previous season despite starting just eight games.

On Tuesday, Anderson was released by the Browns, ending a four-year run with the team that included a trip to the Pro Bowl in 2007 and a steady decline over the following two years.

Still stinging from hearing fans cheer his injury, the 26-year-old quarterback sounded off about the orange-and-brown faithful.

Antwaan Randle El Mistaken About His Role With Steelers

Antwaan Randle El didn't get a chance to watch many Pittsburgh-Pittsburgh-steelers/">Steelers">Pittsburgh-steelers/">Steelers games last year. It's understandable -- he was busy playing for the Redskins">Redskins. But because he didn't get to see the Pittsburgh-steelers/">Steelers, he appears to be under the mistaken assumption that he will be the Pittsburgh-steelers/">Steelers' No. 3 receiver in 2010.

I say mistaken because even when he was in his prime, Randle El was not as good a receiver as Mike Wallace was as a rookie. At this point in his career only an injury to Wallace would explain why Randle El would play ahead of him. If the Pittsburgh-steelers/">Steelers actually told Randle El that he would be their No. 3 receiver this year, either they were a) lying or b) crazy. There is no other logical explanation.

When Randle El talked to the Washington Post, he Redskinsinsider/free-agency/randle-el-rejoins-the-Pittsburgh-steelers/">Steelers.html" target="_blank">seemed to believe that he's returning to Pittsburgh as a key cog.

After fathering seven children by six women in five states, you'd think Antonio Cromartie would have trouble finding a new partner.
